Emerald Racing Club Successfully Claims Dancing Yodeler!!!

The Emerald Racing Club became official Thoroughbred owners on Friday afternoon, when the syndicate’s trainers Larry and Sharon Ross claimed 6-year-old Dancing Yodeler for $3,200 out of the second race at Golden Gate Fields.

A handsome chestnut gelding by Swiss Yodeler, Dancing Yodeler nearly scored his second straight victory after stalking the pace early and opening with the lead into stretch, before finishing third in a thrilling photo-finish with the race’s top two favorites. More impressively, Dancing Yodeler contended with the early leaders throughout the race, and was the only speedster left standing from the front pack before the late closers were able take advantage of a hot pace.

The Emerald Racing Club should be encouraged by two defined traits that Dancing Yodeler displayed in Friday’s race. First, the ability to carry speed on the Tapeta (synthetic) surface at Golden Gate is much more difficult than at Emerald Downs, where the front end is preferred in most races. And second, Dancing Yodeler showed tremendous heart battling with two tough horses in the lane. Both characteristics are a clear sign of a horse that wants to win.

Congratulations Emerald Racing Club on your newest acquisition, and welcome Dancing Yodeler to your team!

***Attached below is a link to Dancing Yodeler’s official chart from Friday’s race (please note that Sharon Ross is listed as the owner per state licensing requirements, but once Dancing Yodeler crosses into Washington State, his owners will be listed as the Emerald Racing Club.

  1. I am so excited! I can’t wait to meet Dancing Yodeler! We have a racehorse and I just got my Washington State owner’s license yesterday!

  2. I assume with the “jail law” we will not be racing him again at Golden Gate and ship him up here and wait 45 days before racing him at Emerald Downs.

  3. I looked at his race record and he seems like a nice sound and consistent runner who knows his job. He’s been in the money in more than half his 55 starts. I too love the Swiss Yodelers and his mama Phaenna was nice too. He should do well at EMD with his running style. I’m sure Sharon Ross will transition him well from the synthetic surface to dirt. This will be fun!

  4. It’s great to find those older SOUND claimers – they are so durable and consistent. He’s going to be a lot of fun. AND, we’re going to have TWO horses now instead of one, thanks to all those who signed up at the last minute.
