Anelina Officially Retired

Anelina is officially retired after consultation with our veterinarian Dr. Stenslie. She worked great on Saturday and came back to the barn fine. However, she began to exhibit swelling in the right ankle (the opposite of the one that was previously injured).

Upon x-rays Tuesday morning it was discovered that she has a fracture on the outside of her sesamoid bone in her right front ankle. It does not require surgery, but she will not race again – now – nor after time off.

She is now on “lay up” again in Sharon’s barn. She is available as a broodmare prospect for any Emerald Racing Club members interested in pursuing that with her. If you are, email me at emeraldracingclub@gmail.com and we can discuss details.

You are truly experiencing the full gamut of being an owner. From the highs of winning, to the lows of having to retire a successful racehorse.

Anelina has given us great joy and pleasure with her friendly personality and voracious appetite for carrots. We can only do the best for her in return.

  1. The highest highs and the lowest lows are what horse racing can be. In the scheme of things we have are having a great ride. The decision to retire Anelina is the correct one as we must always consider the welfare of the horse above all else.

  2. I agree that retiring her is the right thing to do. It was certainly a thrill to watch her race & if there ua anything I can do to promote her in her post racing life, I’ll gladly help in any way I can.

  3. It would be great for you to put her in your “check back in a few years” list for the follow-up video, Sophia. While she didn’t have a long run at Emerald, she will hold a special place for this group…

  4. Lionheart and Miss Ghostzipper would be so proud of her! I believe that is her mom. I know Anelina probably did want to race again and I would have been thrilled to watch her race again but hopefully becoming a mom is her second career or maybe just walking a nice wooded trail and enjoying the sunshine!

    • Nice thoughts Gina! Everybody still make sure she gets her carrots so she remains healthy! A field somewhere in the countryside full of sunflowers would be nice. Maybe they would even have healing powers.

  5. I’m sorry to hear about Anelina’s retirement. Animals in their own way are “people” too and I’m sure she too feels the loss of not being able to race again. Her and Dancing Yodeler have done their part.

  6. So sorry to hear about Ana. But glad that it was caught before she broke down.

I have some yearlings that we¹re going to be selling that club members might be interested in. Is that something that I can post on the blog? I have a Stephen Got Even, Parker¹s Storm Cat, and two Slew¹s Sagas. They are all ready start get started on. They will be priced very attractively. I may keep one of the Slew¹s Sagas one of them is out of Maid in the Moon and I absolutely adore her. And, unless she sold today, we have Celestial Council available she¹s been in Larry and Sharon¹s barn and has just been out of training since Taylor¹s decided to put her in the sale. I¹m also very excited about a 3-in-1 package we bought Shameless Sara with a Council Member colt at her side and carrying a Grindstone baby.

Looking forward to getting more involved next year!!

    Thanks,

    Donna
