Archie Graham Wins!

Archie Graham leads to the wire!

Well, that was fun!

Archie Graham rallied from the back of the pack and scored a 1 1/4-length victory Sunday in the 7th race at Emerald Downs. Ontheshadyside and Golden Dynamo dead-heated for second place while Calex, Kiss Sin Goodbye and Life Is a Joy rounded out the order of finish.

Wearing the green and white silks of Emerald Racing Club, Leslie Mawing rode Archie Graham to the triumph in 1:43.23 for 1 1/16 mile. For those that wagered, Archie Graham paid $6.20 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show.

Archie Graham earned $6,325 to push his total to $16,329 in six races for Emerald Racing Club.

As usual, whenever an Emerald Racing Club horse wins, the winner’s circle was moved onto the actual racetrack to accommodate Archie Graham and the Emerald Racing Club. What a great scene, and nice work by everybody for cheering Archie to victory!

Look at all those happy Emerald Racing Club people!

Sharon Ross said Archie Graham looked good back at the barn, so let’s hope he gets a chance for his third win of the meet.

Great job Larry, Sharon, Leslie and Emerald Racing Club!

Diamonds Dena, meanwhile, is being treated with antihistamines for her pesky hives. She’s also dealing with a bit of body soreness, and had a chiro adjustment Saturday. If all goes well, Dena will breeze an easy half-mile next weekend and then, if all is still well, we’ll look for a race the following week.

For those planning on visiting the barn, a few reminders:

The best time to visit is 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Archie Graham remains in his usual stall, but Diamonds Dena has been moved to the opposite side of the shed row into a high-traffic area. Dena’s new stall allows her better access to fresh air, but also is situated in a precarious area for visitors. Therefore please check with Sharon before going to see Diamonds Dena. You can still visit her, but it’s important that we remain safe and not interrupt training!

Also, no visitors Tuesdays.

Have a great week and let’s win another race soon,

  1. Archie looked just great yesterday, that was just a wonderful trip. Archie finally got to save some ground around the first turn & with the smaller field Leslie was able to choose the best place to ask him to close. The stretch drive was just a hand ride, I saw Leslie tap him once with the whip. He just bounced by the last horse with ease. Thanks Sharon, Larry & the crew. Great job!

  2. My better half looked at the replay and said Archie looked as though he could have kept going and run another race after he finished this one. I had to agree. We’d tried everything but the class drop, and bingo, that seemed to be what worked. Congrats and thanks to Sharon, Larry, Leslie, and Archie’s grooms. Hoping that Dena’s hives will go away and that she’ll rebound in her next race, because we do know she likes winning at this track.

  3. Let me start by saying WOW, a race I’ll never forget. We had been up on Chinook pass since shortly after Point Piper won the Mile. Somehow, not even sure how but Vince’s Email came through about Archie’s run on Sunday.
So we made the decision to try and make the Race. With the truck literally running on fumes and Erika having to ditch the flip flops and run across the parking lot barefooted. Finally, we made a beeline for our spot on the rail just past the wire and we had arrived with about a second to spare as Kiss Sin Goodbye was already loading. Within two minutes of arriving we were headed for the winners circle.

Amazing way to end a week’s long vacation up on the mountain. The Emerald Racing Club has helped so many of us achieve a goal of owning race horses and reaching the Winners circle. We thought that this was a far off dream, maybe even a pipedream if you will but everyone involved with the Emerald Racing Club has made dream in to reality.

Whether this were the final hurrah for the Emerald Racing Club or only the beginning, I can say this and I assume countless others would too say that this experience over the last few years has led to so many marvelous moments which are indelible from our memories that we have together.

Thanks to all that we’ve shared this journey with and I just can’t wait to see what’s next.

  4. It was a great day for our trainers, Larry and Sharon Ross, on Sunday, August 28, as they were inducted into the WA Hall of Fame, and then won the Muckleshoot Tribal Classic with Stryker PhD, ridden by the club’s jockey, Leslie Mawing. Congratulations to all of them, and also Stryker PhD, who ends the year with a great win. I was cheering him on, wanting to see him win, and pleased to see how well he did.pulled it off with his usual dominating style. Well done to all!
